The Lorax for the Bocas’s Nursing home

July 4, 2016

It was another incredible night in Bocas del Toro, Panama and the loving Bocas community came out in force to support the students of Tangerine Educational Center as they held their annual fundraiser to help our neighbors at the Asilo (nursing home). We are still waiting for the official count, but it is safe to say that this fundraiser was one of the best yet, with the donations set to be around $700 (but probably more!). The evening started with amazing live music by the local group Rice and Beans, who played music from many genres including salsa and a bit of reggae thrown in for good measure. The music got some of the crowd up on their feet including the special guests, residents of the Asilo, who smiled, danced and clapped the night away with such joy and gratitude shining on their faces. The main event was an adapted version of Dr. Suess’ The Lorax. All of the students from Tangerine participated in some way or another from the little guys in the preschool as the famous Trufala Trees, to all the kids in grades 1-5 who played the various roles. The students incorporated some song and dance into the play and the audience loved every minute of it. This night showed why Bocas is such a beautiful place, not only because of our surroundings, but because of the people who live here. Locals and expats join together for the good of school kids and the elders as well. From all of us at bocasdeltoro.com, thank you Tangerine for a super fun night and thank you Bocas community for giving us all something to smile about!
